Undercarriage legs

The undercarriage legs are waterjet cut. The actual cut edge is full of little grooves which are nasty "stress raisers". These all need to be removed. I start with a 40 grit disc in the grinder taking care not to generate lots of heat. Keep moving and don't focus on one area. The 40 grit also leaves nasty scratches which I remove with a slower turning disc of 100 grit. This leaves a more "polished" looking surface. Radius all the edges in the process.

Next step is to tack the 12mm aluminium tube to the aft face of the gear leg with micro or a few blobs of body putty if you're in a hurry! After this I applied 2 layers of 190gsm glass at 45 degrees making sure the two glass layers joined at the trailing edge in a straight line. Once this is cured I will micro the whole thing and sand it to a low drag shape and paint.
